Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What will I need to do these mods? A: The essential things are a soldering pen (in the range of 20-30 watts), electrical solder, and desoldering braid (or wick). Other helpful tools are: needlenose pliers, electrical pliers, diagonal (snipping) pliers, alligator clips (for use as a heat sink), a third hand, and extra 22-28awg stranded wire.
Q: How hard are is this for a beginner? A: If you don't have soldering experience, I recommend practicing on an old vcr or other broken/working circuit board that you can ruin while practicing soldering and desoldering. My instructions come on cd. There is a large file of tips and helpful suggestions for identifying parts and modding in general. The instructions for the actual mod will be on the same cd and have a color picture of the circuit board with as many parts as possible marked.
Q: How do I ship my pedal to you? A: I prefer USPS or UPS. Please DON'T use a shipping method that requires a signature confirmation! Often I am not around when packages are dropped off, but they are safe to be left here. I have an oversized mailbox to accomodate large/multiple boxes and the neighbors are all very close, you don't have to worry about anything being stolen from my doorstep or mailbox. If this is a major problem, please contact me in advance so I can make arrangements to ensure I'll be available to sign, or have someone else to sign. My shipping address is: Pedalhacker 307 Yorktown Dr. Goshen, IN 46526
Q: How do I get transistors matched from you? A: Pick out the transistors you want and email me at pedalhacker@verizon.net. I can't always guarantee a certain gain but I will be able to tell you if I can match some from you. If you need a certain gain, I will try to accomodate you but may need a few days.
